Domain Authority (DA) is Moz's metric that predicts ranking potential on a 1–100 scale. Domain Rating (DR) is Ahrefs' metric that measures backlink strength on a 0–100 scale. Both are useful but use different algorithms. Our free DA checker uses Moz data, while our DR checker uses Ahrefs data.

When available, the result separates the domain-level DA observation from the PA observation returned for the requested target. A provider can also return no score or fail temporarily.

Compare relevant competitors with the same provider and during the same period. Treat a difference as a prompt to inspect pages and links, not as proof that one site will outrank another.
WHY USE

DA can be a useful relative comparison when the provider and observation period are held constant. It is not a Google ranking factor, a complete link audit, or a guarantee that one domain will outrank another.
Assess Ranking Potential
Use DA as Moz's relative prediction, then validate real search performance in Search Console. Do not convert a score into a ranking guarantee.
Competitor Analysis
Compare relevant competitors with the same provider and period. A score gap can suggest where deeper page and backlink research may be useful.

Use DA as one screening clue, then inspect editorial relevance, the linking page, audience, placement, and actual traffic before pursuing a link.
Track SEO Progress
